What a beautiful essay about beautiful earthbound things. Thought provoking daydream inducing prose. I think of heaven. Thank you for sharing.

Just watched Michael Moore's "Planet of the Humans" which he released with his co-writers, directors and producers on Netflix. Some viewers consider it anti-environmentalists. My take was that it showed evidence of big money getting into the pockets of The Sierra Club and Al Gore. Were they complicit or unaware of the materials being used to create the falsely called "sustainable" fuel alternatives? While it is yet another inconvenient truth it is important that we know that big money has once again watched trends and jumped in to maximize their own profit. Just as they did with the growing interest in healthy food, creating "diet" foods. replacing healthy fats with artificial, addictive sweeteners, etc. Interested in hearing your take away. Mine, in brief, is that you cannot call using trees " biomass" sustainable when you contaminate the soil and don't replant the trees! The documentary is not anti-environmentalist. It is simply evidence that what is left of our idealism is being chipped away by the powers that be. Duped again and again.. by the wolves in sheep's clothing.

Thanks for printing Brian Doyle's essay. I remember his work from Sun Magazine.
