Damn you Isaac for being so good at making an emotional connection and making me tear up like that. You're just as devious as Pixar and I love you both for it.
I'm so happy for your success and I'm even more proud I decided to make the jump and become and annual subscriber. I just changed my subscription up to your founding member level because of this one post. I've mentioned Tangle to several people but I've not yet gifted it to anyone yet. I intend to do that from now on, I believe in your vision.
For those of you wondering why anyone would willing pay 4x more for a subscription when they don't have to, I hear you. I was wondering that myself when I first saw the option before me. In my case, it's not because I have the money to burn, I most certainly do not. I work 60 hrs/week just to make ends meet because California is an expensive state to live in. I did it because I believe we should invest our money into the people and companies that promote the future we want to see. It's an investment philosophy that has served me well so far and I expect it will serve me all well in this arena as well. I believe Isaac dream is the type worth is worth investing in. We get so few opportunities in life to stand up for what we believe in and I'm grateful for the opportunity to do it today.
Even when I disagree with Isaac I respect the man enough to know he put in the research and care into his work to make something of quality in a world that frequently penalizes people for it. I'm not so vain as to think I have all the answers and I see that attitude reflected in his writing as well. The future of journalism I want to see is one where more people follow this example and present the stories as honestly and objectively as possible calling out the fraud when it's there but more than anything holding truth above all else.
Thank you again Isaac for having the courage and strength to overcome your fears and making this happen. I'm sure there were many times you could have given into that fear and gave up but the world would have been a more divided and dreary place for it. I hope more of the world comes see the worth of what you're doing and propels you and your vision for journalism into a new and brighter future.
Thank you so much, JC. These words are both exhilarating and motivating to read -- and so rewarding after so much work to get to this point. Ironically, given that I'm a writer, it's tough to put into words how much it means -- this comment alone is worth far more than any subscription could be, but that you're backing it up with a founding membership blows me away. I hope one day we get to meet over a coffee or beer. Cheers!
I'm sure it was my finally paying up that tipped the balance so -- you're welcome. Congratulations and thanks for your journalism. We get so little of it.
Happy to see your success grow - Tangle is a worthy effort!
I've written you a couple of times with comments over the last few months and have been impressed that you not only wrote back but took the time to make a lengthy counterpoint. Knowing how how little time you have "free", I am even more impressed in your willingness to engage with readers and SO glad I subscribed!
Also - I'm a Day One Subscriber if you get a UFO newsletter going! #SeriouslyMakeThisHappen
Hahaha thank you Richard! The UFO thing is... real. My brother is a big UFO guy, and we have a couple friends who want to make a podcast/newsletter project happen as a bit of a fun thing. I'll be sure to promote it in Tangle if it ever gets off the ground, which I think it really might!
Thanks so much for the note and the kind words. Really. Responding to emails and engaging folks truly is my favorite part of doing this, even though it sometimes takes me days or a week to get to emails!
Congrats, Isaac! At the beginning of last July, I began reading Tangle. By the end of that month, I was subscribing. Why? In addition to your commitment to exploring all sides of an issue, you have that rare quality which many (most?) people are lacking these days: the willingness to say "I made a mistake" or "I was wrong" or "Thanks for sharing your perspective!". Perhaps if more of us could say these things to those with whom we disagree, we'd have a much more civil, empathetic and constructive society.
Thanks Eileen. To be frank: that was a muscle I had to train and learn, and working on Tangle for two years has really made it strong. I don't have all the answers — I'm searching for them honestly, and I hope with empathy and open-mindedness, but learning to accept that I'm going to screw up and have to fix mistakes has been one of the more difficult and most rewarding parts of writing this newsletter.
I totally get that! It's can be hard enough saying these things to people we know and love, let alone to individuals with whom we have no relationship and of whom we possibly think the worst. You will "screw up", as all of us do, but can it truly be screwing up when "to err is human"? Our faults lie not in the mistakes but in not seeking truth in the first place, and then acquiescing when we know we are wrong.
Thanks for your newsletter which I read regularly with great interest. One suggestion: if you'd like more comments, you could follow Dispatch's lead and end each day's newsletter with a question for subscribers to answer. Dispatch has a great comment section, but having one does require some moderation work to keep things civil, especially when people come from across the political spectrum.
Congratulations, man. I came here through the election fraud thread and it’s been one of my favorite news services ever. I only sub to this and the NYT daily newsletter. I think it’s sorely needed medicine for our country.
CONGRATS!!!!! I’m so happy you’re moving to full-time Tangle! I love Tangle because it’s facts, truly bi-partisan, and simply interesting. Your literary voice is fun and easy to read. Your passion is evident with each and every newsletter. I’m a huge fan and a lifetime subscriber. Keep doing what you’re doing, we’re behind you all the way! Arthur would be so proud!
It's my pleasure, Isaac! There's something very satisfying about giving credit where credit is due. 👏🏻 Thanks for all your hard work and giving us a safe place to come for honest reporting. 🙏🏻
That's fantastic new, Isaac! Mozel tov! I didn't realize that it was better for you to subscribe annually as well as for subscribers, so will be changing mine to a yearly sub. Can't wait for even more content from your having both more time as well as less stress from two separate jobs. :)
How exciting!! So cool - and thanks for sharing more of the beginnings and in betweens of your story as Tangle grew - it's inspiring! Congrats, Isaac!!
Woo hoo!!!!!! What fantastic news! I appreciate your voice and your presence on what is now an international stage. May you continue in the good path you have created. (And may your wedding be peace-fillex and joyous)

If you're ever near Ventura CA I'd love to buy you whatever your preference is. You already have my email. Cheers! 🍻 / ☕
Beautifully and Eloquently said, JC; very moving! GOOD triumphs again❗️

Awesome! Of course, I read The Dispatch, so I'll give their comment section a closer look and see what I can learn. Thanks for the suggestion!
Fellow Dispatch guy here. This is a great idea. Would love for this to turn into that kind of online community.

That's awesome. Thank you, Garrison. So glad I made that thread - it has brought in a lot of committed readers!
