I think you're being too optimistic about the horrifying implication. I don't think there's an "additional litmus test" I think it's the only one left. There is no platform and there is no belief system that they won't abandon if it would give them power. I say this as a former (until Trump) republican.

Nobody should be surprised by the peoples lack of belief in their government or the media. It seems that everyone knows there is no proof of election fraud. So says the government and so says the media. But still more than half the country's conservatives doesn't believe that.

Yet I should point out the half the country still believes the "Russian Collusion" fairy tale that was spawned without proof and by fabrications. Do you think liberals don't believe that Trump conspired with Putin? Or that Russians put bounties on Americans in Afghanistan?

When people are lied to repeatedly by the Government either directly or by the media (via sources such as the CIA), you have to expect people to make their own truth. And that's not good. But its also the inevitable result of being lied to.

Here in Canada we get bullshit directly from the government rather than indirectly from the security services. Take for example our government telling us that the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) said it was safe to get our 21-30 day COVID booster shots after 4 months instead and that became policy. We were told that we must believe the science. When NACI advised on not getting the AstraZeneca or J&J shots and wait for the mRNA shots they are wrong and we should not listen to their advice.

And people wonder why anyone would be anti-vax.

Quite an evenhanded discussion about Senator Liz Cheney. I appreciate the insights.

A commenter on the ArsTechnica article concerning former President Trump's upheld ban on Facebook reveals much about their (FB) behavior:

"So the Oversight Board said they disagreed with the indefinite ban, but then kept the ban in place and essentially extended it for six months for additional review. Basically, they're just gonna keep kicking that can down the road, which sounds 100% on brand for Facebook these days."
