Let's put Jan 6 in perspective. Five people died that day: one protestor (Ashli Babbitt) who was shot by Capital police, two protestors who basically had heart attacks, one protestor from a methamphetamine overdose, and one Capital police officer (Brian Sicknick) who suffered a stroke. There was $10 million in damage, far less than the cost of the annual July 4 fireworks show on the Mall. It was not 9/11. It was not Pearl Harbor. It would not have made the evening news lately in Portland or Minneapolis. Just the same, there are those who won't let even a paltry crisis go to waste.
Interesting take, Shawn. It was an insurrection looking to prevent Congress from certifying the election results. So, bigger than 9/11 or Pearl Harbor. Undermining an election because the person you like has lied about the election for months is something that happens in banana republics. I find it concerning that the alleged 'patriots' were backing an authoritarian who didn't care about the Constitution. Watching what happened here was eerily similar to what I've read about happening in Germany as Hitler rose to power. Yes, we need a commission to look into it. This should not be a partisan issue but everything in DC is.
I'm with Shawn on this one. Trumps lying didn't undermine the election. You have a new President. This is nothing like Germany and Hitler. Trump is out. Sure he still has supporters but so do many other cults. Ignore him.
Where are the rugged Americans that the world used to admire? Is this the America of the Boston Tea Party, the Revolution and a Civil war, the antiwar movement, the Just Society -- or a nation of whining partisan babies.
I doubt the riot at the Capitol barely ranks in the top 100 riots in the US in the last 25 years in terms of people hurt and damage costs.
You had your period of over the top rhetoric about "attempted coup" and "armed insurrection" and even impeached the orange buffoon.
Now move on. Show you are strong enough to have a bunch of costumed yahoos bang around the capitol. Boy you took armed Black Panthers in the California capitol better than this. Moved on from armed rednecks in the Michigan capitol building. Why can't you get past this one?
If you don't know what went wrong and how to fix it then the commissions already impaneled won't help and neither will this one.
