I’m Isaac Saul, and this is Tangle: an independent, ad-free, subscriber-supported politics newsletter that summarizes the best arguments from across the political spectrum — then “my take.” You can read Tangle for free or subscribe for Friday editions, and you can reach me anytime by replying to this email. If someone sent you this email, they’re asking you to sign up. You can do that by clicking here.
Dear readers,
I’ll just get right to it: this weekend was my bachelor party.
I was blessed enough to spend that time surrounded by some of my closest friends and family in the state of New Mexico. And, like good friends do when it’s time to celebrate, they absolutely refused to let me work. They hardly let me sleep.
After a red-eye flight home to New York City this morning, and with just a couple of hours of sleep under my belt, I’ve accepted the fact that today was not going to be a day where I did work that was up to par. So I decided to give in and take a quick breather.
Still, like any Tangle edition, I want this email to be worth the open. So I’m going to take a brief moment to point you in the direction of a few things.
First, we unlocked Friday’s subscribers-only edition for everyone, given that there is no real newsletter today. The edition is a transcription of our interview with Randy Shrewsberry, a former police officer who shared his ideas on how to overhaul police training. You can read it here or listen to it here.
If you’ve already read or listened to the edition with Randy, then here are a few worthwhile things I’d suggest checking out:
Last week’s edition on the Israel-Palestine conflict was the most read and shared newsletter of the week.
This New Yorker article on how the U.S. government has slowly begun to acknowledge “UFOs” is absolutely fascinating.
This cover story in The Atlantic, which advocates returning the national parks to Native Americans, really got me thinking. Especially after Tangle had covered American Indian reservations just a few days before it was released.
And remember: if you want full access to Friday editions, or to support this endeavor more generally, you can become a subscriber. Along with access to the comments sections and six months of free access to World Politics Review, you also get Friday editions that are deep dives, interviews, personal essays and other original content.
Thank you all, in advance, for your understanding about today’s brief break. We’ll be back in your inbox tomorrow.
Best,
Isaac & the Tangle team
Appreciate the honesty rather than a less stellar newsletter with errors. I hope the bachelor party was fun and the redeye wasn't too bad.
Congrats on the upcoming marriage, Isaac!
